Crowdfunding started with nonprofits to support their fundraising efforts and then was brought to a mass market by Obama in 2008. The latest trend is to leverage the same concepts for companies (Kickstarter is an example). The next phase in this evolution will be in equity-based crowdfunding, where Karma411 is working with a startup called Proseeder who is a leader in this market. Where is this important phenomenon heading? Will we be able to buy $100 of stock in a small private company startup with an iPhone app some time in near future?

John has helped start 10 software companies during his 20 years in the software space. His first success was with FatWire Software, an enterprise content management software company which he started in a bedroom with his business partner Mark Fasciano which was acquired by Oracle Software. He then started Karma411, a Crowdfunding platform for causes. Karma411 is a portfolio company of Canrock Ventures, a Long Island based venture capital firm and tech incubator space based in Hicksville.
